Shelagh Rogers talks to Russell Wangersky about Burning Down the House, his memoir of being a firefighter
Being a hero isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In Burning Down the House: Fighting Fires and Losing Myself (Thomas Allen) award-winning writer Russell Wangersky relates the story of his eight-year career as a volunteer firefighter. Like many children, he grew up with the dream of becoming a firefighter and saving lives. But in reality, he found that dealing with human tragedy resulted in his own trauma.
In this feature interview from The Next Chapter, Wangersky talks to Shelagh Rogers about his book, and what it's like behind the uniform of a firefighter.
