Lisa Moore Nominated for Man Booker Prize

Newfoundland writer Lisa Moore has been long-listed for the Man Booker Prize for her second novel, February, a fictional account of the emotional aftermath of the Ocean Ranger disaster. A short-list of nominees will be announced in September of this year.

Danielle Devereaux and James Langer Reading at The Ship

Poets Danielle Devereaux and James Langer will give a free public reading tonight at The Ship Pub, off Duckworth Street in St. John's, Newfoundland, tonight (July 27th) at 8 p.m.

Devereaux's unpublished poetry manuscript was shortlisted for the 2009 Fresh Fish Award for Emerging Writers. Langer's Gun Dogs was the winner of the 2010 Gerald Lampert Memorial Award for the best first book of poetry published by a Canadian in the preceding year.

The reading is being hosted by Riddle Fence, a journal of arts and culture based in St. John's.

James Langer Wins Gerald Lampert Award

Newfoundland poet James Langer has been awarded the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award (which is awarded each year to the best first book of poetry published in the preceding year) for his collection Gun Dogs. Langer is a poetry editor for The Fiddlehead who currently resides in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Dawe and Crummey Win CAA Awards

Newfoundland authors Tom Dawe and Michael Crummey have won Canadian Authors Association awards.

Dawe won the CAA Poetry Award for Where Genesis Begins, his collaboration with artist Gerald Squires.

Among other things, Jennifer is known for her devilishly funny cartoon strip, Werebears and Only Children, from the St. John's alternative newspaper The Scope.
